Felipe Massa has confirmed that he has held and is still in discussion with Williams for the 2014 season, but insists he won’t become a pay driver.
The Brazilian will leave Ferrari at the end of the year after the Italian outfit chose to replace him with Kimi Raikkonen. Massa is yet to find a drive elsewhere, but says he’s talking to several teams with Williams just one of those.
“I am talking with a few teams, including Williams, but I have nothing to say at the moment,” he said on Thursday.
It’s believed he could bring relatively significant sponsorship to a team from Brazilian backers, but Massa says its his experience that should get him a seat, not the money.
“I am not a paying driver, so I will not go to the team just because I have a sponsor,” he added, also claiming he won’t look at smaller teams either.
“I will not go to a small team, I will go to the team that has some possibilities to do a good car and I hope I can find this solution.
“I’m pretty much confident that I am going to find an interesting direction. Until you are sure, it is always a little risk, but I am positive that I can find this and I am working for that.”
