The design of the 2022 Indianapolis 500 ticket has been unveiled, with the 2021 winner Helio Castroneves featuring prominently.
Fans who purchase a seat to the 106th running of the great race will each receive the newly-designed paper ticket, which will instantly become a collector’s item.
The ticket also features the new red shield logo, which is encircled by a wreath similar in design to the one the winning driver is presented each year.
“This is absolutely awesome!” said Castroneves at the unveiling. “The atmosphere is just incredible. Just to be here – I’m speechless.
“I swear to god, I have not seen this. The only thing they told me, they said my mouth is not open.
“I’m still on cloud nine, to be honest. This is absolutely incredible. I just hope they make my hair line a little lower this time,” joked the 46-year-old, referring to the faces on the Borg-Warner trophy next to him.
“But you know what, I don’t care. As long as my face is on this trophy, I’m super happy.”
Castroneves won the infamous race for a record-tying fourth time last year while driving for Meyer Shank Racing, and will be attempting to earn his fifth in May.
The win was a very popular one among fans of the sport, and it is no wonder why the design is built around his historic achievement.
The previous year’s winner has been prominently featured on each event’s tickets for the better part of seventy years.
Recent tickets have also switched to using a photographic design element, rather than a patterned or hand-drawn style.
The 2022 Indy 500 will be run on May 29, with practice and qualifying sessions taking place throughout the preceding two weeks.
Attendance allowances have not been announced at this time, but approximately 135,000 fans were allowed to attend this past year, and the intention is for most if not all 300,000+ seats to be available in 2022.
