Lawson moves closer to title with second Norisring pole

Liam Lawson moved closer to the DTM title as he put his Red Bull AF Corse Ferrari on pole with a 48.622, 0.041 ahead of title rival Kelvin van der Linde.

This gives Lawson an extra three points, extending his championship advantage to 19, ahead of K. van der Linde on 208.

Lawson’s teammate and fellow Kiwi Nick Cassidy qualified third for only his second DTM race, while Lucas Auer put his car fourth.

Philip Ellis will start fifth, with Daniel Juncadella sixth. Arjun Maini qualified seventh, while previous race winner yesterday Maximillian Götz sees his title hopes fade as he will start eighth.

Nico Müller qualified ninth, with Maximillian Buhk rounding out the top 10.

German DTM veteran Mike Rockenfeller will start 11th, with Vincent Abril in 12th. 13th will be Sophia Flörsch, while Lucas di Grassi qualified 14th. Esteban Muth will start 15th, with Marco Wittmann 16th.

Esmee Hawkey qualified 17th, with Sheldon van der Linde alongside. On the last row, Dev Gore will start 19th with Timo Glock in 20th, nine tenths behind polesitting Lawson in a tight field.
