Kelvin van der Linde took DTM pole for the third time this season for Audi Abt Sportsline, with a 1:26.052, for the race first race of the weekend at the Nurburgring, as the championship leader looks to further extend his points advantage.

Philip Ellis slotted into second, two tenths back from the South African, for Mercedes-AMG Team Winward. In third, Marco Witmmann made it three German manufacturers in the top 3, with the BMW Walkenhorst driver just 0.059 off Ellis.

In fourth was another Mercedes-AMG driver, Daniel Juncadella, just 22 thousandths off Wittmann. Luca Stolz lines up in fifth, just one thousandth of a second off Juncadella, while Maximillan Götz took sixth, again 0.082 off Stolz in a close session for everyone.

Christopher Haase will line up seventh, with Esteban Muth alongside him. Alex Albon sits eighth on the grid, with Maximillian Buhk behind him. Liam Lawson, van der Linde’s main championship challenger, will start 11th after setting exactly the same time as Buhk, a 1:26.511.
