Arthur Leclerc was quickest in qualifying in Hungary for FIA Formula 3 and will take Race 3 pole and the four championship points to go with it.

Leclerc was not in the top 10 until with the final 10 minutes, when he went fastest by 0.096 seconds over Jack Doohan and David Schumacher in the top three.

With the track temperature dropping in the closing minutes, drivers were struggling to generate their tyres into the optimum window.

However, with a last-time lap, Leclerc was able to keep hold of first position, while Hauger improved from fifth before his last run to second and less than a tenth behind the Monegasque pilot.

Doohan and Schumacher were third and fourth ahead of Clement Novalak and Alex Smolyar, who are next in fifth and sixth.

Frederik Vesti, Logan Sargeant, Olli Caldwell and Ayumu Iwasa rounded out the top ten.

With the top twelve being reversed for the Race 1 grid, 12th place Jonny Edgar will start on reverse-grid pole ahead of Lorenzo Colombo on the front row.

With Leclerc serving a three-place grid penalty for a collision he was deemed responsible for in the last event in Austria, he will start Race 1 from 15th, which crucially does not affect his grid start for Race 3.

The first race of the FIA Formula 3 weekend will be on Saturday morning at 10:35 track time.
