London EPrix victory ‘one of my best’ – Dennis

Winning a race is always a brilliant moment for any driver, but for Jake Dennis, taking victory at the London EPrix has been one of the pinnacles of his career so far.

The British driver was left beaming after taking home his second victory of the season, diving past Mahindra’s Alex Lynn as his compatriot took Attack Mode and looking untouchable throughout the remainder of the race.

Capping off a brilliant day after qualifying in second, he has become only the third driver to have taken two wins in Season 7’s 12 races so far alongside Jaguar’s Sam Bird and Mercedes EQ’s Nyck de Vries, who joined him up on the podium in today’s race.

“I think it’s one of my best. It’s my home EPrix so they don’t come much better than this. To stand on the top step with my guys just below me it’s an incredible feeling,” Dennis remarked.

A moment that will live on Dennis’ memory also has had a major impact on the title fight, vaulting the 26-year-old from 15th to third in the Drivers’ Championship. He now sits only two points adrift of championship leader Bird, with three races and ninety points remaining.

Few could have expected him to be a title contender in his rookie campaign, and now the BMW i Andretti driver has got his sights firmly set on achieving his first championship title since the 2012 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC.

“We can definitely take home the title for sure, we’re third for a reason. I’m just looking forward to the future races to come.

“It’s going to be challenging. Obviously in Group 1 Qualifying now, so that’s always a bit of a disadvantage but there’s no reason why I can’t keep this momentum going,” Dennis added.

Yet his quest for victory will not be easy. He will face an uphill battle in the second London EPrix Qualifying session tomorrow, lining up in Group 1 with Bird, Antonio Felix da Costa, de Vries, Robin Frijns and Edoardo Mortara for company.

With the weather forecast to once more take a turn for the worst, wet and stormy conditions could help or hinder him as his American team showed strong pace throughout the wet FP2 session earlier today but Group 1 struggled in Qualifying as the rain began to ease.
