Maximilian Guenther laid down the fastest time in a rain-hampered FP2 session, as conditions caught out several drivers up and down the grid.

It was a strong showing for the BMW i Andretti team who ended the session 1-2 at the top of the timing sheets. Guenther posted a 1:26.838 to go quickest with the top nine split by just under a second.

Guenther outpaced his teammate Jake Dennis, who races on home soil this weekend , by three tenths of a second, ahead of Porsche’s Andre Lotterer in third.

Track conditions proved to be tricky heading into Turn 10. The zebra crossing brought an early end to Stoffel Vandoorne’s session when the Mercedes EQ driver caught the barriers and headed into the run off area.

Envision Virgin’s Robin Frijns also went for a spin with 13 minutes left on the clock, sliding into the run-off area at Turn 7 and Lucas di Grassi found himself with damage to his Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler car later in the practice session.

Mahindra’s Alex clocked in the fourth fastest time on home soil, ahead of Sergio Sette Camara in another promising showing for the Dragon/Penske Autosport team.

Mercedes EQ’s Nyck de Vries was sixth, ahead of the second Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler of Rene Rast and the Nissan e.dams duo of Sebastien Buemi and Oliver Rowland.

ROKiT Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara rounded out the top 10, just over a second off Guenther’s leading time.

Jaguar’s Mitch Evans and Sam Bird will be hoping for a better showing in Qualifying, having ended the session in 11th and 12, respectively.

Yesterday’s FP1 pace-setter, Jean-Eric Vergne also struggled down in 19th for DS Techeetah, two seconds off the leading pace.
