Gustavo Menezes has taken to social media to explain why he has not been featured in Glickenhaus’ line-up for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The American driver was notably left out of the six-man driver squad for the French endurance classic despite having competed for the team at the third round of the FIA World Endurance Championship at Monza.
Menezes explained with a post on Instagram that the decision was made for him not to race at Le Mans due to his upcoming involvement with the Peugeot Hypercar programme.
“To those of you guys that may have seen in today’s entry list release, I’m really sad to share that I will not be competing in this year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” Menezes wrote.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Glickenhaus throughout the pre-season and of course in Monza, but of course as you know, beginning later this year, I will begin my partnership with Peugeot.”
“Because of this we have decided it best to allow the opportunity for the six other incredible drivers to take the start this year. I will of course be there to support them in any way possible and I very much look forward to being at the starting line with a lion in the coming years.”
“Thank you for the opportunity, and I’m bummed we didn’t get to cross the finish line this year.”
It will mark the first time since 2016 that the Los Angeles native has not raced at Le Mans. After leaving the European Formula 3 series, he first made his debut at Signatech Alpine and took a class win.
In 2017, he once again raced with Alpine, this time alongside future Glickenhaus team-mate Romain Dumas, before joining Rebellion Racing for three consecutive starts, scoring two overall podiums in 2018 and 2020.
