Lopez leads Hartley in opening Monza 6H practice

Jose Maria Lopez has set the fastest time in opening practice for the Six Hours of Monza, leading a Toyota one-two.

Lopez set the pace in the #7 Toyota GR010 Hybrid by posting a 1m 38:401s, just over a tenth ahead of team-mate Brendon Hartley.

The third-fastest time was set by the #36 Alpine A480-Gibson in the hands of Nicolas Lapierre, who outpaced both of the Glickenhaus 007 LMHs.

Romain Dumas went quickest of the two cars in the #709, with his best time just under seven-tenths behind Lopez but four-hundreths clear of team-mate Olivier Pla in the #708 sister car.

Filipe Albuquerque led the way in LMP2, posting a 01:39:373s aboard the #22 United Autosports ORECA 07-Gibson. Albuquerque led the #29 Racing Team Nederland ORECA in the hands of Nyck de Vries. De Vries is deputizing at the Dutch squad after team regular Job van Uitert was written out following a positive COVID test.

Ben Hanley was third for DragonSpeed, ahead of Team WRT and the two cars from JOTA, who arrive in Monza after taking a resounding one-two win at Portimao.

GTE Pro was led by Ferrari, as the Italian manufacturer got its home race off to excellent form by locking out the top two spots in class.

Daniel Serra led the way in the #52 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo, just under four-tenths up on team-mate James Calado in the #51 sister car.

Neel Jani was third quickest in the #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19, with the #91 sister car under a tenth back.

Porsche did top GTE Am, as Riccardo Pera posted a 01:47:194 aboard the #77 Dempsey-Proton Porsche 911 RSR-19 to lead the class.

The opening session at Monza was red flagged after half an hour, when the #47 Cetilar Racing Ferrari 488 GTE Evo crashed in the hands of Roberto Lacorte.
