Felipe Massa says he’s ‘confident’ of securing a new deal with Ferrari for the 2013 season despite his poor form this and last year.
The Brazilian has scored just 25 points to team-mate Fernando Alonso’s championship topping 164 – 75 of which have come from three wins, whilst Massa is yet to finish on the podium in 2012.
Whilst much has been speculated about his potential replacement, Massa is optimistic that he can shine in the latter half of the season to cement his place within the team.
“I’m confident. Even though the results have not been good, the performances were better,” he’s quoted by the Associated Press. “Now we need to have a clean race so the result can be positive.”
“In the end the result is what matters the most. That’s what’s crucial for every driver. I’ll need to stay prepared and finish the races well to try to have better results in the second half of the year.”
He revealed that contract negotitations have been ongoing for some time: “The discussions began a long time ago,” he added. “But until there is a deal finalised, nothing changes.”
