Magnussen and van der Zande take first IMSA Chip Ganassi Cadillac win at Detroit

Kevin Magnussen and Renger van der Zande won the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic at Detroit Belle Isle in relatively untroubled fashion.

The #01 Cadillac Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R took the top spot, with the win being both the first time Chip Ganassi Racing has got on the podium in IMSA with the Cadillac programme, and Magnussen’s first IMSA podium as well.

The Ganassi win solidified a productive day of firsts for the overall team, as Marcus Ericsson took his maiden IndyCar win on the same track earlier in the afternoon.

It was a Cadillac 1-2 in General Motors’ back yard, as Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani piloted the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R to second, jumping Harry Tincknell in the #55 Mazda Motorsports RT24-P at the start and never looking back.

Over in GT Daytona, the pole sitters also took victory, with Jeff Westphal and Richard Heistand for #39 CarBahn with Peregrine Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 taking another mostly untroubled win from class pole.

Second in class with Ross Gunn and Roman de Angelis, driving the #23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3, followed by Marco Mapelli and Misha Goikberg’s #19 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo rounding out the GTD podium positions.

Finally, in the non-points paying GTLM class, Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy in the #4 Corvette C8.R were able to best their teammates Antonio Garcia and Jordan Taylor in the sister #4 Corvette C8.R.
