Marco Sorensen, who won the GTE Pro world title with Aston Martin last year, will make his first major start since 2020 as part of TF Sport’s effort in the Silverstone 500.

The Dane will be taking part in the Blue Riband event of the British GT Championship by piloting an Aston Martin Vantage GT3 alongside gentleman driver Bonamy Grimes.

Sorensen and Grimes both raced in the 2019/20 FIA World Endurance Championship, albeit for different teams. While Sorensen captured the world title with Aston Martin Racing, 49-year-old Grimes made his series debut with Red River Sport in the GTE Am category.

For Sorensen, it will be his first major outing since Aston Martin Racing’s factory GTE Pro programme closed at the end of the title-winning 2020 campaign.

“I’m really looking forward to teaming up again with Tom [Ferrier] and TF Sport, a team whom I hold in high regard from when I raced with them in the 2018 Asian Le Mans Series, and then against them in the 2019/20 World Endurance Championship,” said Grimes. “I’m looking forward to competing for the very first time in the British GT championship and challenging myself against some of the very best bronze drivers in the country.”

On the other-side of TF Sport’s two-car effort, Italian gentleman driver Giacomo Petrobelli will be partnering factory driver and Le Mans class winner Charlie Eastwood.

At last year’s event, Petrobelli made his first start in the series, teaming with Tom Canning. The Silverstone 500 will take place on June 26-27.

“It’s good to be back on home soil during a season full of international campaigns,” said team owner Tom Ferrier. “We have proved ourselves in this championship over the years and with two solid driver pairings, it will be interesting to see where we fare amongst this season’s competition. I’m pleased to have both Bon and Giacomo back with the team and we will be pushing for strong results from them both.”
