W Series races will be shown live on free-to-air broadcaster Channel 4 in the United Kingdom this year, series organisers have confirmed.
The category, which did not race in 2020 due to the pandemic, will return to action alongside Formula 1’s Styrian Grand Prix next month.
It will be the first of eight planned rounds across the 2021 season.
W Series’ on-screen team will consist of equal numbers of men and women, with Lee McKenzie and Anna Woolhouse as presenters, Amy Reynolds and Ted Kravitz as pit lane reporters, while Naomi Schiff – W Series racer in 2019 – will provide analysis.
Alex Jacques will act as lead commentator with David Coulthard and Billy Monger supplying co-commentary.
“I am delighted that W Series’ founding broadcast partner, Channel 4, has reinforced its commitment to showcasing women’s sport and our talented racing drivers,” said W Series CEO Catherine Bond Muir.
“Live free-to-air motorsport coverage is rare, but our partnership with Channel 4 is a key part of W Series’ plan to create more visible role models to inspire girls and women to be a part of motorsport, whether that is on track, on screen or behind the scenes.
“The expertise and insight provided by our brilliant commentary team will be instrumental to our efforts.”
