Formula 3 has committed its next round of the season to France, moving it a week earlier, to bring it in line with Formula 1’s grand prix.

Formula 1 announced last week that France’s event will now be held on the weekend of June 19/20, rather than June 26/27, following the decision not to compete in Turkey.

The shift was undertaken in order to squeeze in an additional round in Austria, on June 26/27, ahead of the existing round at the Red Bull Ring on July 3/4.

Formula 3 was scheduled to race in both France and Austria and will continue to do so in spite of the date change.

It comes after W Series, which was due to race at Paul Ricard, relocated its season opener to the Red Bull Ring, in order to retain the same dates.

It means neither Formula 2 nor Formula 3 will compete at the Styrian Grand Prix on account of their split schedules.

Red Bull-backed Dennis Hauger leads the standings after the opening round at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Spain.
