The official pace car for the 105th running of the Indianapolis 500 was revealed today at an event held on the front stretch of the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This year’s pace car is the 2021 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible, and it is painted Arctic White with custom black racing stripes and yellow accents.

Hidden amongst the body work are multiple safety lights to bring the car up to the visibility standards necessary, including strobe lights in the headlights, front louvers and taillights.

There are even lights embedded in the nacelles that sit behind the occupants’ heads.

The incorporated lights and strobes allowed the designers to forego the traditional light bar on the roof and leave the silhouette of the performance car untouched.

The Corvette is powered by the next-generation 6.2 litre V8 engine, and is equipped with a performance exhaust to produce 495 horsepower.

“The 2021 Corvette Stingray hardtop convertible is such a world-class performance car that’s a perfect match to lead the talented field of 33 drivers to the green flag in ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’” said Indianapolis Motor Speedway President J. Douglas Boles.

“We continue to be grateful for our strong, enduring partnership with Chevrolet and its many contributions to the success of our events and the exciting appeal of competition at the Racing Capital of the World.”

17 drivers running Chevrolet engines are planned to attempt to qualify for this year’s Indy 500, including Simon Pagenaud who won the race in 2019 and is the most recent winner to be powered by a Chevrolet engine.

Approximately 130,000 fans will get to the see the pace car in person when it heads the field of 33 cars for the 105th Indianapolis 500 on May 30, 2021.
