Former NASCAR driver Charlie Glotzbach died at the age of 82 on April 23, 2021.
Glotzbach contested 124 races in NASCAR’s top series between 1960 and 1992. He never ran a complete season, contesting a season-high 22 races in 1968. He ran another 20 races in 1971. Glotzbach claimed four wins in what is now known as the NASCAR Cup Series between 1968 and 1972. His Cup Series career stats also include 38 top-fives and 50 top-10 race finishes.
“I’m proud to have run in NASCAR,” Glotzbach told a local newspaper in 2011. “I was proud just to do it, but I’m also proud of the races I won. Plus I had a good percentage of finishing in the top five or top 10 of the races I ran.”
Glotzbach attempted to qualify for the inaugural Brickyard 400 in 1994, but he was among the more than 40 drivers who failed to make the race. he contested his last race, an exhibition race for NASCAR legends, at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2010. He sustained multiple injuries in a crash that also involved Larry Pearson but mad a full recovery.
