Lewis Hamilton has apologised after he was caught doing burnouts in Melbourne on Friday.
The McLaren driver reportedly did several doughnuts in front of a Police van along Lakeside drive. His car was impounded by Police, and will remain so for 48 hours under Australian law.
Hamilton released a statement apologising for his mistake: “This evening, I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police,” said Hamilton.
“What I did was silly, and I want to apologise for it.”
Senior Constable Scott Woodford told the Herald Sun that Lewis stopped immediately and was “extremely co-operative.”
“It would have been fair to say he was fairly disappointed with the incident.”
Hamilton is likely to be fined and charged with improper use of a motor vehicle.
