HubAuto Racing have announced that they will switch their entry for the 24 Hours of Le Mans from GTE Am to GTE Pro.
The team, which was originally supposed to enter its #72 Porsche 911 RSR-19 into GTE Am after securing entry following success in the Asian Le Mans Series, will instead join WeatherTech Racing as the second privateer Porsche in GTE Pro.
Team owner Morris Chen explains that the team was able to make the move following an increase in sponsorship.
“There are several reasons why we wanted to make this move. We have had several discussions with our key partners, so we will receive significant support and sponsorship for the transition to the LMGTE Pro category,” Chen said.
“Last year, our sponsors saw our ability to be a leading team in our first outing at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“The move to LMGTE Pro is an important move for our team’s strategic direction and confirms that our sponsors have great faith in the future of the team.
“This is just the latest stage of growth for HubAuto Racing and we are grateful to the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) for making this change possible.”
As a result of the change, the Taiwanese squad becomes the first-ever Asian entry into the top GTE class. The amount of cars has now been boosted to eight, with the factory entries from Porsche, Corvette and Ferrari joined by the two Porsches from WeatherTech Racing and HubAuto.
The team’s driver line-up will be announced at a later date.
“We are thrilled to be able to compete against the best LMGTE Pro teams and riders from Europe and the US, most of whom are factory teams,” Chen concluded. “We know we have a great challenge ahead of us but, as always, we can’t wait to face it.”
