NASCAR Cup Series driver turned NASCAR FOX analyst Jamie McMurray plans to contest the 2021 Daytona 500, scheduled for Feb. 14, as driver of the #77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet.
“It doesn’t get any better than the Daytona 500, and I am so excited to have the opportunity, thanks to AdventHealth, to run this race one more time,” McMurray said. “I have enjoyed my time out of the car as an analyst covering NASCAR, but nothing can replace the feeling of actually racing.”
McMurray’s most recent Cup Series race was the 2019 Daytona 500, also with Spire Motorsports through a deal with Chip Ganassi Racing. He retired from full-time competition as a Cup driver at the end of the 2018 season.
McMurray began his Cup Series career with CGR late in the 2002 as a substitute for the injured Sterling Marlin. He also ended his career as a full-time NaSCAR driver with Ganassi. Between his two stints with CGR, he raced for teams including Roush Fenway Racing and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing.
McMurray’s seven-career Cup Series wins, in 583 races, include the 2010 Daytona 500. He also won at Daytona in July 2007.
