Nannini to race both F2, F3 in 2021, joins Deledda at HWA

HWA Racelab has confirmed an all-new driver line-up of Matteo Nannini and Alessio Deledda for its Formula 2 team in 2021, with Nannini also racing for the team in Formula 3.

Due to cost cutting measures, F2 and F3 no longer take place on the same weekend, with Nannini being the first to take advantage of the non-clashing schedules.

Nannini took part in his maiden F3 campaign in 2020, finishing 18th in the Drivers’ Championship with Jenzer, before getting a first taste of F2 machinery at the post-season test in Bahrain.

The Italian’s split duties in 2021 means he will take part in 45 races across F2 and F3, with the 17-year-old admitting it will be a “demanding” situation.

“I am really looking forward to such a busy season,” Nannini said. “45 races in 2021 are going to be demanding, but I feel ready and determined to grow as a driver, having the opportunity to race in both FIA F2 and F3.

“It will be my first year in Formula 2. I know it will not be easy, but I am willing to learn as much as possible.

“I am confident heading into my second season in Formula 3 and I am sure that HWA will provide me with a competitive package to do well.

“I truly believe in HWA’s F1 Talent Factory programme and I am excited, as my double commitment in 2021 will be key to bring me one step closer to Formula 1.”

Nannini will be joined by Alessio Deledda at HWA’s F2 division, after the 26-year-old completed two seasons of F3 in 2019 and 2020 with Campos.

Deledda has taken a best race finish of 16th from 34 starts and finished 34th in last year’s championship.

“FIA Formula 2 is a new experience that I have been waiting for years,” Deledda said.

“I am excited to be participating in such a competitive championship and testing my skills. I am sure that, together with a team rich in experience like HWA, we will be able to grow together on this journey that awaits us.”
