The Heart of Racing has announced that it will return to the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship in 2021 for a second season with Aston Martin, with factory driver Ross Gunn joining the team’s ranks for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Gunn will join Ian James, Roman de Angelis and Darren Turner aboard the #23 Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

The team will campaign Aston Martin’s GT3 challenger for the second consecutive season, after first running it during the 2020 season. It ended its first season on a high, finishing second in GTD in the Twelve Hours of Sebring.

“Last year was a lot of learning and refining the team and car,” said Ian James, driver and team principal. “Towards the end of the season we made some really great strides and became a podium threat.

“Since then we have been working tirelessly in the short off-season to be prepared for the year ahead. Thanks to Gabe’s continued support we will be looking to operate at our maximum potential and enjoy the tremendous opportunity on and off the track!”

Gunn made his Rolex 24 debut last year, teaming with Pedro Lamy, Mathias Lauda and Andrew Watson in a factory-backed Vantage GT3, but the team failed to finish.

“I’m incredibly excited to be joining The Heart of Racing team for 2021,” Gunn said. “The Rolex 24 At Daytona is the biggest race of the year for the team and a huge challenge for the drivers and crew.

“The team really started unlocking the full potential of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 last year and I’m sure they will continue to do so going into Daytona!”
