2 Seas Motorsport has announced that it will field a pair of McLaren 720S GT3s into the new GT3-style DTM championship in 2021, marking the first time the British marque has competed in the illustrious German series.

The British-Bahraini outfit, which debuted in sportscar racing in 2020, will field two of McLaren’s GT3 cars into the championship, thus becoming only the second team to officially announce its presence in the revamped DTM after GruppeM Racing announced a Mercedes-AMG entry last month.

“The 2 Seas Motorsport team is going from strength to strength, and I am incredibly proud of what we have built and achieved in such a short period of time which sees us announcing a two-car effort in the DTM championship, with McLaren,” said team co-owner Isa Al-Khalifa.

The DTM series is one of the most iconic in world motorsport, which only continues to grow in stature, and it is really exciting to be able to make this move to race and continue to build our relationship with McLaren – one of the most successful names in motorsport.”

2 Seas Motorsports debuted in 2020 and competed in the British GT Championship, where it scored seven podiums en route to third in the GT3 standings.

Nick Cristofaro, team co-owner, is aware of the big step the team is making with a DTM entry, but expresses confidence in the team’s chances.

“It has been a whirlwind debut season, and the confirmation of our entry into DTM is a big step, but I am confident in the team we have in place and we are up to the challenge,” Cristofaro said.

“It is great to be in a position where the championship has opened up to accept GT3 entries, and we can work with McLaren to take the 720S GT3 on to a completely new global stage.

“The viewing figures for last year were incredible, and blend of the DTM format with the addition of a GT3 is shaping up to be a very interesting recipe.”

The team says it will confirm further details, including driver line-ups, in the coming weeks.
