Dragonspeed will be entering the LMP2 category of the 2021 FIA World Endurance Championship, with IMSA champion Juan Pablo Montoya confirmed as one of the drivers.

Montoya will partner team regulars Henrik Hedman and Ben Hanley aboard a US-flagged ORECA 07-Gibson, operated out of the team’s newly established base of operations in Montmelo, Spain. The car will run on Goodyear tyres.

“I’m really excited to be joining DragonSpeed for the full WEC season,” Montoya said, “I had an amazing experience with them this year at Le Mans and I’m looking forward to racing again at so many classic venues with such a great group of people.”

The new venture with Dragonspeed comes after Montoya linked up with the team at last September’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“I’m super pleased to make this announcement well in advance of next season,” said Dragonspeed team principal Elton Julian. “Having Henrik and Ben together again while adding Juan’s ultra-gifted and experienced hands to the equation gives me tremendous confidence in our potential not only to fight for our class titles but also feature high up in the overall results as the new top class finds its feet.”

For Dragonspeed, it marks a return to the WEC after a one-year absence. During the 2018/19 season, it operated an LMP1 entry for Hedman, Hanley and Renger van der Zande, as well as an LMP2 crew for Roberto Gonzalez, Anthony Davidson and Pastor Maldonado.
