The #7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid is leading the 8 Hours of Bahrain with six hours remaining, holding a sizeable gap back to the sister car
Mike Conway took the start in the polesitting Toyota and remained unchallenged throughout the opening hours, having since handed over to Kamui Kobayashi. The leading Toyota holds a gap of some 40 seconds back to the #8 car, currenlty driven by Brendon Hartley.
In LMP2, Ho-Pin Tung leads for Jackie Chan DC Racing. The #37 ORECA 07-Gibson started from second place, briefly dropped to third at the start but moved into the lead in the latest round of pitstops.
Polesitters United Autosports are in second after briefly dropping to third during the pitstops, but Phil Hanson has brought the #22 ORECA 07-Gibson up to second place, close to Tung. Third place is held by JOTA’s Roberto Gonzalez in the #38 ORECA 07-Gibson.
GTE Pro is being led by the #92 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Kevin Estre. Estre started from the lead and endured a close battle with the #95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR of Marco Sorensen that saw the Frenchman briefly run wide after the car slid away through turn seven.
Estre then briefly relinquished the lead to team-mate Gianmaria Bruni when the Italian jumped ahead during pitstops. The #92 Porsche then regained the lead, with Porsche currently running in one-two formation and Marco Sorensen in third in the #95 Aston Martin Vantage AMR.
Ross Gunn currently leads GTE Am in the #98 Aston Martin Vantage AMR after an existing first few hours that saw the lead change hands multiple times.
The #98 Aston Martin started from pole in the hands of Paul Dalla Lana, but was passed at the start by Salih Yoluc in the #90 TF Sport Aston Martin Vantage AMR. Later on, Dalla Lana, Yoluc and Team Project 1’s Ben Keating got involved in an incident at turn 8 that saw Dalla Lana spin out and drop back.
The Canadian then handed over to Ross Gunn, who quickly charged up the order and leads the class ahead of the #54 AF Corse Ferrari 488 GTE Evo of Francesco Castellacci. Larry ten Voorde sits third in the #56 Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR.
