Mathys Jaubert delivered a landmark result for Genesis Magma Racing, securing the manufacturer’s first FIA World Endurance Championship pole position ahead of Toyota.
Genesis Magma Racing made history in Barcelona as Mathys Jaubert claimed pole position for the 6 Hours of Barcelona with a best lap of 1:30.166 in the #17 GMR-001. The Frenchman finished 0.170 seconds ahead of championship leader Ryo Hirakawa in the #8 Toyota TR010 Hybrid.
Genesis came close to locking out the front row, with Mathieu Jaminet taking third in the #19 car despite an earlier technical issue and a brief stop during Hyperpole. Charles Milesi placed the #35 Alpine fourth, followed by Will Stevens in the #12 Cadillac.
Robert Kubica secured sixth for AF Corse, ahead of the second Alpine, while Ferrari’s Antonio Fuoco could only manage eighth after having a lap deleted for track limits. The top ten was completed by Toyota’s Nyck de Vries and Cadillac’s Jack Aitken.
It was a disappointing session for Aston Martin, with neither Valkyrie reaching Hyperpole. BMW and Peugeot also failed to progress to the final shootout.
Genesis will now look to convert its breakthrough qualifying performance into a strong result in Sunday’s six-hour race, as Toyota and the rest of the Hypercar field prepare to challenge for victory.
