Red Bull and Mercedes have been the quickest teams in the pitlane according to official data supplied by Mercedes.

A total of 1013 trips have been recorded through the pits so far this season. Of these, 25 were accounted for by penalties – 21 drive-through and four stop-go’s. This leaves the total number of pit stops in the 2011 season at 988, with two races remaining.

The Hungarian GP saw the most stops with 85, whilst Turkey saw 80 and Spain 77. The least stops took place at the Italian GP with 35, Monaco 41 and the season opener in Australia saw 44.

Red Bull head the table having recorded the quickest stop in eight races, Mercedes are a close second with seven, whilst McLaren and Ferrari have one apiece.

Taking an average, thus discounting repairs and the such, therefore ‘clean’ stops only, Red Bull still lead with nine of the fastest stops (Malaysia, Turkey, Spain, Canada, Europe, Hungary, Belgium, Italy, India), whilst Mercedes hold five (China, Germany, Singapore, Japan, Korea), McLaren two (Australia and Britain) and Force India one (Monaco).

Using the average stop-time calculations, an overall league table can be drawn up, reflecting the consistency in speed of each team. After 17 races, it stands as follows:

Pos Team Time
01. 1= Red Bull Racing Best
02. 1= Mercedes GP Best
03. 3 McLaren +0.3s
04. 4 Force India +0.4s
05. 5 Ferrari +0.5s
06. 6 Renault +0.9s
07. 7 Williams +1.1s
08. 8= Lotus +1.3s
09. 8= Sauber +1.3s
10. 8= Toro Rosso +1.3s
11. 11 Virgin +1.6s
12. 12 HRT +3.2s
