Juan Pablo Montoya has set the fastest time in qualifying for the Hyundai Monterey Sports Car Championship, leading team-mate Helio Castroneves in a front row lockout for Acura Team Penske.

Several drivers topped the timesheets throughout the session, with the top three separated by a tenth at one point before Montoya stormed to the top in the #6 Acura ARX-05 with a 01:15:174.

Montoya’s top time came moments after Castroneves had moved to the top in the #7 Acura, but he had to settle for second in the #7 Acura ARX-05.

Oliver Jarvis was third fastest in the #77 Mazda RT24-P, with Pipo Derani fourth for Whelen Engineering Racing and the top five completed by the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac DPi-VR of Tristan Vautier.

Taylor snatches GTLM pole despite early stumble, Porsche blunders

Jordan Taylor has continued Corvette Racing’s formidable qualifying streak by taking GTLM pole comfortably, despite an early engine stumble.

Taylor set a series of quick laps in the #4 Corvette C8.R, culminating in a 01:21:483. This was despite an early stumble for the car, when it struggled to accelerate out of the final corner on any early lap. It had no further consequences and Taylor was able to seal pole.

Laurens Vanthoor was second in the #912 Porsche 911 RSR-19, 0.242s behind Taylor. Oliver Gavin was third in the #4 Corvette C8.R ahead of the two BMWs of Bruno Spengler and Jesse Krohn.

The #911 Porsche 911 RSR-19 failed to set a competitive time after Fred Makowiecki was sent out late on in the session. Makowiecki made his way onto the track with less than five minutes on the clock, and could not set a lap faster than 01:32:856, which is slower than the full GTD field.

McMurry seals maiden GTD pole

Matt McMurry has taken his first pole position in GT Daytona, topping the time sheets in the #86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo. McMurry lapped Laguna Seca in a time of 01:25:379, which was enough for pole.

Robby Foley came the closest to beating McMurry, as his best time in the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3 was 0.014s slower. Cooper Macneil took third in the #63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo.

The top five was completed by the #57 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Misha Goikhberg and Frankie Montecalvo’s #12 Lexus RC F GT3 for AIM Vasser Sullivan.

The other Lexus, the #14 car in the hands of Aaron Telitz. Telitz, who will be crowned Sprint Cup champion with Jack Hawksworth when he takes the start later today, had his session cut short when he returned to the pits with a deflating tyre after only a handful of laps.
