Boullier willing to give Kubica more time

Renault team principal Eric Boullier says he and the team are willing to give Robert Kubica more time to prove he is capable of competitively racing in Formula 1 next year.

The Frenchman declared a mid-October deadline for a decision, but subsequently pushed said deadline back to the end of the month.

He is now willing to give the Polish driver, who was seriously injured in a rallying accident in February of this year, until mid-November after meeting with his manager, Daniele Morelli, in Korea.

“Maybe a little further,” Boullier told Autosport in response to when a decision will be made. “If I can wait a little bit longer, I will maybe have to because he’s not fully ready and I want him to be in a fair situation to make sure he will be back.

“I spoke to Daniele Morelli and they are very confident that Robert will be back, which is nice to hear. We still have to go through some processes so he is basically fighting against time.

“If Robert can driver a Formula 1 car, I want him to be with us so I have to give him a chance. It’s up to me to be flexible.”

Renault have planned for Kubica to get behind the wheel of the Renault simulator and possibly a demo car to help with his recovery and their assessment of his abilities in late-November.
