Dane Cameron has beaten team-mate Ricky Taylor to pole position for Motul Petit Le Mans, producing an Acura Team Penske one-two in the process.
Cameron put down a 01:08:412 in the #6 Acura ARX-05 to take pole position, which was enough to beat the 01:18:506 set by the #7 Acura of Ricky Taylor by 0.094s, which was the fastest time prior to Cameron’s late flyer.
Felipe Nasr was third fastest in the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-VR, exactly two-tenths down on Taylor. Harry Tincknell took fourth in the #55 Mazda RT24-P, with Ryan Briscoe fifth in the #10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac.
Tristan Nunez was sixth in the second of the Mazdas, with the order in DPi completed by the #5 Mustang Sampling Cadillac of Sebastien Bourdais in seventh and the #85 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac of Gabriel Aubry in eighth.
Patrick Kelly took a dominant pole position in LMP2, putting the #52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA 07-Gibson on pole for the fourth consecutive race.
Kelly put down a benchmark lap of 01:11:590 early on and promptly returned to the pits, with not a single runner coming close to besting his time.
Garcia halts BMW challenge for GTLM pole
Antonio Garcia has put Corvette Racing on pole position in GTLM after fending off a challenge from BMW’s Connor de Philippi.
Garcia’s team-mate Tommy Milner set the pace early on in the session with a flurry of fast laps before Garcia made his way to the top. The Spaniard was then surpassed by a flyer from the #25 BMW M8 GTE of Connor de Phillippi, who moved to the top with a 01:15:434.
The North Carolina native looked set for pole before Garcia then took it back with a 01:15:163, putting the #3 Corvette C8.R on pole position. De Phillippi took second, ahead of the #24 BMW M8 GTE of John Edwards.
Laurens Vanthoor was the best of the Porsches by putting the #912 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in fourth place, ahead of Milner’s #4 Corvette in fifth. The class was completed by Nick Tandy in the #911 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in a field that was covered by seven-tenths of a second.
Michimi beats Westphal to GTD pole
Shinya Michimi has won a thrilling duel in GTD to take pole position for Meyer Shank Racing. The Japanese driver traded the top time back and forth with Scuderia Corsa’s Jeff Westphal, but Michimi came out on top with a 01:19:251.
That put the #86 Acura NSX GT3 Evo on pole position, with the #63 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 0.173s down in second place. Frankie Montecalvo, who sat on pole in last month’s six-hour enduro at Road Atlanta, put the #12 Lexus RC F GT3 in third place.
Madison Snow put the #48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo in fourth place, with the top five completed by the #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3 in the hands of Robby Foley.
The top five in class was separated by just 0.366s, with half a second covering the top eight.
Misha Goikhberg was sixth in the #57 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo, ahead of Andrew Davis’ #30 Team Hardpoint Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo. The top ten was completed by Pfaff’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, the second AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus and the Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.
