NASCAR Cup Series team Germain Racing will shut down at the end of the 2020 season, according to team owner Bob Germain. The team will continue to field the #13 Chevrolet for Ty Dillon for the seven races remaining this season.

“Being an owner in NASCAR for the last 16 years has been a thrilling and rewarding adventure,” Germain said. “From winning two NASCAR Truck Series championships in 2006 and 2010, to competing at the highest level of motorsports in the Cup Series for the last 12 seasons, I have experienced the highs and lows of our sport. I’m extremely proud of what Germain Racing has accomplished at every level and I will be transitioning out of ownership with many memories and friendships. I appreciate the interest and offers made over the last couple of weeks, and I am excited to see how the sport continues to grow in the future.

“Thank you to Geico for their loyalty to Germain Racing for over a decade. It has been a great source of pride for our team to represent their brand on the track. Doug Barnette with Player Management International has facilitated our Geico relationship since the beginning and I truly appreciate his efforts. Finally, to my employees: building a team camaraderie and creating a family atmosphere has been a highlight of this journey. I will miss each of you.”

When Germain revealed that longtime primary sponsor Geico would leave his team at the end of the season, and he didn’t have a sponsor signed for 2021, he said he was exploring his options, including selling his race team. He has sold the charter for his team to a new race team owned by Michael Jordon, with Denny Hamlin as minority owner and Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. as driver.

Germain went full-time Cup Series racing in 2009 and embarked on full-time competition in the series in 2011. Casey Mears was the first full-time driver for the team in the Cup Series, and Dillon has been full-time with the team since 2017, his first full season in the Cup Series.

Germain Racing has two best race finishes of fourth, one with Mears in 2014 and the other with Dillon last year, both in July races at Daytona International Speedway.

Germain fielded entries in the NASCAR Truck and Xfinity series between 2004 and 2011. The team won 22 Truck races, all but one with Todd Bodine as driver and the other with Ted Musgrave behind the wheel. Bodine won two Truck Series championships with Germain Racing in 2006 and 2010.
