Five drivers from Sunday’s FIA Formula 3 race at Monza have been awarded penalties by stewards.

Liam Lawson has been given a 10-second time penalty for forcing Lirim Zendeli off the track when he passed the German on Lap 9 at Turn 1. The dropped the Kiwi from second position to seventh, meaning he is demoted to fourth in the Drivers’ Standings behind Theo Pourchaire, who was promoted to second in today’s race.

Despite finishing 11th on the road, Bent Viscaal was disqualified for a breach of parc ferme regulations. A member of the MP Motorsport team was granted authorisation to de-pressure the fuel cell but failed to notice that the Dutch pilot had forgotten to put the steering wheel back on the car after exiting it. The team member reattached the steering wheel but without requesting permission from the Technical Delegate.

Clement Novalak has given a five-place grid drop for Race 1 in Mugello for causing a collision with Oscar Piastri and Michael Belov into Turn 2 that saw the championship leader retire as a result.

Piastri will also be demoted five places back on the grid for forcing title-rival David Beckmann off the track at Turn 5, which also saw the German retire from the damage sustained.

Finally, Piastri’s closest counterpart in the championship, Logan Sargeant has been given a three-place grid drop. The stewards perceived that the American was wholly responsible for his collision with Frederik Vesti at the Ascari chicane. Both drivers retired, meaning PREMA did not score for the first time in a third-tier single-seater race since 2012.

The championship standings sees Oscar Piastri lead by eight points over Logan Sargeant, with Theo Pourchaire now in third with one round to go.
