Formula E Founder and Chairman Alejandro Agag has tested positive for COVID-19, becoming the second person to do so in the championship’s current Season 6 finale.

Over the next two weeks, the fully electric series will take up residency at Berlin’s historic Tempelhof Airport where it will complete six races to end the current 2019/20 campaign that was postponed as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier in the week, it was confirmed that Dilbagh Gill, Team Principal of Mahindra Racing, had received a positive result when tested for COVID-19 and as a result, is self-isolating in his Berlin hotel room.

Agag now has become the second member of staff to test positive for coronavirus and as a result, missed his first ever E-Prix in the first race of the finale yesterday after creating the championship that commenced its inaugural season in 2014.

“So sad to miss my first Formula E race ever, that I had to watch from my room in Berlin.

“I tested positive for COVID on arrival and I am following all the excellent protocols we have in place to keep everyone safe. Missing everyone in the Paddock!!!”

For the finale – which is taking place behind closed doors – there is a capped maximum of 1,000 people on-site at any given time while coronavirus testing is mandatory ahead of races alongside daily on-site screenings.

The use of face masks is also be enforced, alongside the following of social distancing measures and limited movement across workspaces in four defined event populations.
