Caca Bueno took a record sixth pole position in the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, beating Sergio Jimenez to the top in qualifying for the second of seven races in Berlin

In the early stages of the 30-minute session, the fight for pole was between Jimenez and title rival Simon Evans, who yesterday closed the gap to the Brazilian by two points in the Drivers’ Championship.

The Team Asia New Zealand driver opened proceedings with an initial benchmark of a 1:26.054s run before Jimenez shaved 0.099s off this lap to lay down a new benchmark.

Evans then improved on Jimenez’s high-speed run, advancing to provisional pole position with a 0.086s buffer but again, Jimenez found an advantage, now opening up a 0.115s gap which later became 0.269s after a subsequent improvement.

With a 1:25.576s run around Tempelhof, Bueno then shot to the top of the timesheets at the half-way mark in the session, beating his team-mate’s previous personal best by 0.007s.

A further improvement from the five-time Stock Car Brasil champion ensured that he would land pole position, with a final 1:25.471s lap handing him the top spot, 0.112s ahead of team-mate Jimenez who finished as the runner-up.

After taking a podium on debut yesterday, Nick Foster again impressed by securing third at the end of the session, successfully beating the more experienced Evans who qualified in a low-key fourth after previously fighting for pole position.

Alice Powell followed the Kiwi to complete the top five while VIP driver Oliver Webb took the sixth fastest time, 0.563s slower than Bueno’s pole position lap.

Gregory Seggers was seventh as Fahad Algosaibi’s dominance in the Pro-Am competition continued – the Saudi driver taking pole position in the sub-category by qualifying eighth overall.

Takuma Aoki was ninth fastest and was followed by Adalberto Baptista and Paul Spooner who rounded out the field of 11.
