Rene Rast has taken pole position for the Sunday DTM race at Spa-Francorchamps, stealing the top spot away from Robin Frijns on his final flying lap.
Rast’s last lap produced a time of 02:04:199 to put himself on top of the timesheets and score his 14th pole position in DTM.
Frijns, who took his maiden pole on Saturday, looked set for a second pole position, but had to settle for second, 0.285s behind Rast.
Championship leader Nico Müller scored an additional point by qualifying third with a 02:04:987, with Sheldon van der Linde the best-placed BMW driver in fourth place.
Philipp Eng and Timo Glock will form an-all BMW third row in fifth and sixth place, with the top ten completed by Jamie Green, Marco Wittmann, Lucas Auer and Mike Rockenfeller.
Jonathan Aberdein was momentarily looking at fifth place on the grid, but was one of a number of drivers that had a lap deleted for track limit infringements. His ultimate effort of 02:06:003 put him eleventh, ahead of Robert Kubica and Loic Duval.
Fabio Scherer was the best of the Team WRT rookies, less than a tenth clear of team-mate Harrison Newey.
Ferdinand Habsburg’s troublesome Spa weekend continued in qualifying. The Austrian driver was back on the grid after missing most of Saturday’s running following a practice crash, but failed to set a lap time and will start from the back of the grid.
