Alex Lynn will replace Pascal Wehrlein at Mahindra Racing for the remainder of the 2019/20 Formula E season following the German pilot’s split with the Indian marque.
Lynn made his debut in the all-electric championship in Season 3 as a stand-in for Jose Maria Lopez at Virgin Racing before securing a full-time drive with the Richard Branson-backed squad for Season 4.
A difficult 2017/18 campaign resulted in Lynn’s departure from Virgin, however, in the first season of Formula E’s Gen2 era, the Briton returned to the series as Nelson Piquet Jr’s replacement at Jaguar.
While Lynn’s seven-event tenure in the I-TYPE 3 only yielded 10 points, a number of technical issues robbed the 26-year-old of two likely podium finishes in Berlin and New York.
As such, the 2014 GP3 Series champion was a strong favourite to partner Mitch Evans for Season 6, only to be bypassed for James Calado, staying on as test and reserve driver.
Holding the option to join another team as part of his Jaguar contract, Lynn will partner Jerome d’Ambrosio at Mahindra for Formula E’s six-race Berlin finale this August following Wehrlein’s immediate departure.
“I am really excited to be able to represent Mahindra Racing in Berlin,” said the Briton. “I have high ambitions in this championship that match what Mahindra Racing wants to achieve.
“I just can’t wait to get started. I’ve raced twice in Berlin before and always felt that I went well there, including appearing in Super Pole last season.
“The format of Berlin is going to be exciting and challenging at the same time and I’m looking forward to hitting the ground running.”
Dilbagh Gill, Mahindra Racing CEO and Team Principal, expressed his confidence in Lynn’s ability as Formula E’s 2019/20 finale approaches and thanked Wehrlein for his efforts in the team since Season 5:

Wehrlein is expected to join Porsche for Formula E’s seventh season which will commence on January 16, 2021, replacing Neel Jani.
