IndyCar has announced that fans will be welcome at the double-header races from Iowa Speedway scheduled for the 17th and 18th of July.

People attending the event at the 0.875-mile oval will have their seating assigned in such a way as to promote safe social distancing behavior.  Existing race ticketholders and holders of season passes will be allowed to attend as well people who purchase a limited number of remaining available seats.

When they enter the parking areas, all visitors will have their temperature checked from within their cars.  Sanitizer and face coverings will be distributed to all visitors and there will be no access to the infield except by essential personnel.

This will not be IndyCar’s first race of the year that allows fans to attend, but it will be the first at an oval with seating exclusively in grandstands.  The double-header from Road America the weekend before is set to host fans as well, but the road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin has many wide open areas for fans to easily distance themselves once inside the facility.

IndyCar made a return to racing on July 6, holding the season opener at Texas Motor Speedway without fans in attendance.  The event featured many changes and unique scenarios in order to safely host the compressed, one-day schedule.

The series’ next race is a joint weekend with NASCAR from Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The landmark 4th of July event on the track’s road course layout will resemble the Texas race in many ways, including the empty grandstands.
