The ABB FIA Formula E Championship’s Race at Home Esports Challenge will be streamed live across BBC platforms from this weekend’s season-opening race.

Announced last week, the esports championship will see Formula E’s present Season 6 grid take to the virtual racing world on rFactor 2, competing over the next eight weeks as the series’ current campaign remains suspended.

Featuring a unique ‘Race Royale’ format – applying the rules of Battle Royale to the racing world – the last-placed driver at the end of every lap will be eliminated until 12 runners remain, leaving a two-lap sprint to the flag where points will be awarded.

A test event for this unique esports series in support of UNICEF was carried out last weekend, with BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Maximilian Guenther beating Stoffel Vandoorne to victory.

The Race at Home Challenge will be available to watch on the BBC iPlayer, Red Button and the BBC Sport website, with coverage starting at 16:20 BST on April 25.

In support of the race, singer-songwriter Rita Ora will join presenter Nicki Shields to launch the championship in which sim racers, influencers and other motorsport personalities will also race in a separate category.

23 of Formula E’s 24 Season 6 drivers will contest the season-opener, with Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird absent from the race in Hong Kong.
