Juan Manuel Correa will make his Formula 1 Esports debut at this weekend’s Virtual Chinese Grand Prix, partnering regular racer Antonio Giovinazzi at Alfa Romeo.

Correa, 20, took up a development role at Alfa Romeo for the 2019 campaign and tested its 2012-spec machinery mid-season.

He sustained life-threatening injuries in the high-speed Formula 2 collision in Belgium that resulted in the death of Anthoine Hubert.

Correa has been using a virtual set-up at his home in Miami for several months as he continues his recuperation from those injuries.

As per the previous virtual Formula 1 events the participants will use Codemasters’ F1 2019 platform, with set-ups prohibited and all cars on the same level.

Six current Formula 1 drivers – Giovinazzi, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Alexander Albon, George Russell and Nicholas Latifi – will participate.

The event will be streamed on Youtube, Facebook, Twitch and Weibo at 19:00 CET on Sunday.
