Codemasters has announced that the latest iteration of the official Formula 1 video game, ‘F1 2020’, will be released on July 10 on PS4, Xbox and PC.
Despite F1 yet to commence on-track action due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the virtual world has continued almost unabated with its development.
The new title will once again feature all 10 teams which are set to compete in the 2020 campaign while Formula 2 will also be present in the game.
The Birmingham-based developer has also introduced a new feature within the game which will allow the player to create their own team. The player will be able to build the facilities, choose sponsors, power unit supplier and even their own team-mate.
F1 was supposed to have 22 races in 2020, but due to the global pandemic that is no longer the case. Despite this, all 22 circuits including the returning Zandvoort circuit and the new track in Hanoi will appear in the latest title.
Players will also have the opportunity to get a hold of the ‘Schumacher Deluxe’ edition of the game which will feature four of German’s iconic cars, including the Jordan 191 in which he made his F1 debut.
The other three cars are the title-winning Benetton’s from 1994 and 1995 and the Ferrari F1-2000 which ended the Scuderia’s 21-year wait for another Drivers’ title.
“Our core players will welcome even greater gameplay depth with the introduction of our brand-new My Team feature, alongside three customisable season lengths which allows them to pick their favourite tracks,” said Lee Mather, F1 2020 Game Director.
“In the year where Lewis Hamilton is going for his seventh World Championship, we celebrate the greatest F1 driver of all time with our Michael Schumacher Deluxe Edition, which we know will prove popular with our community.”
Split-screen capabilities will make a return as well as further customisable settings within the career mode to suit the players skill-level.
“As huge fans of F1, we continue to innovate and develop game modes that bring players even closer to the real-world sport,” added Mather.
“We’ve also added new modes to enable more casual players to get up to speed more easily, and we’ve brought back split-screen for social play with friends. The additions reduce both the difficulty and time barrier to entry while retaining the car handling that our simulation players love.”
