Renault has teamed up with its Esports partner, Team Vitality, for a virtual event, in which Formula 1 driver Esteban Ocon will participate.
Motorsport has been suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, with Formula 1’s next scheduled event the Canadian Grand Prix in mid-June.
The event’s postponement is likely to be confirmed this week.
Instead several leading championships, including Formula 1, IndyCar and NASCAR, have launched virtual races to take place instead of real-life events.
Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won Formula 1’s virtual race on Sunday, with five contemporaries – Alexander Albon, Lando Norris, George Russell, Antonio Giovinazzi and Nicholas Latifi – also taking part.
Ocon, a prolific gamer in his spare time, did not take part but will now line up in a Renault-backed event on Gran Turismo Sport on Tuesday.
Ocon will be joined by Renault junior Hadrien David and an array of other Team Vitality racers, with Renault’s sports cars to be used for the races.
The event will begin at 19:00 BST on Tuesday and be broadcast on Team Vitality’s Twitch channel.
