Sam Bird topped the timesheets in final practice ahead of qualifying for the Mexico City E-Prix.

The Envision Virgin Racing driver closed the 30-minute session with the fastest time, completing a 1m 07.672s run around the 2.606km-long Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

Antonio Felix da Costa emerged as the Briton’s nearest challenger for DS Techeetah, trailing by 0.119s while Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans was third, a further 0.234s down on the Portuguese.

Sebastien Buemi emerged as the fastest Nissan e.dams driver by delivering the Franco-Japanese squad with the fourth-fastest time while championship leader Stoffel Vandoorne completed the top five – his team-mate Nyck de Vries glancing the Turn 3 barriers at the start of the session.

In the second Envision Virgin entry, Dutchman Robin Frijns was sixth, 0.476s off the pace of his team-mate. Andre Lotterer followed for Porsche in seventh.

Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein for the Indian marque, outpacing Season 3 champion Lucas di Grassi in ninth – his Audi team-mate Daniel Abt getting hospitalised for precautionary checks after crashing in FP1.

Reigning Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne completed the top 10, 0.682s off the pace with a last-minute improvement for DS Techeetah.
