Sam Bird rejoins AF Corse at Sebring and Le Mans

Sam Bird will be returning to AF Corse’s ranks for the 1000 Miles of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans, driving the #71 Ferrari 488 GTE Evo alongside Davide Rigon and Miguel Molina.

The Briton was forced to give up his full-time seat in the FIA World Endurance Championship after several clashes with the ABB FIA Formula E Championship, in which he drives for Envision Virgin Racing.

Two of the WEC’s rounds clashed with Bird’s Formula E commitments. The 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and 1000 Miles of Sebring both clashed with Formula E’s calendar, but both clashes were resolved.

The Spa clash was avoided by moving the WEC round’s date, while the ongoing coronavirus outbreak caused the Sanya E-Prix, which clashes with the Sebring round, to be postponed.

While AF Corse is not changing its line-up for Spa, the team has opted to draft in third drivers for both cars at Sebring. This means that Bird joins Rigon and Miguel Molina while Daniel Serra joins James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi on board the #51 car to reform the line-up that won GTE Pro honours at the 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans.

These line-ups will remain the same for the 2020 edition of the French endurance classic in June.
