Devlin DeFrancesco will stick with Trident for this year’s FIA Formula 3 Championship.

The 20-year-old endured a tough first year in the newly-rebranded championship, with the Canadian finishing the season pointless and 25th the standings. Prior to last year, he has competed in the GP3 Series with MP Motorsport in 2018, along with his commitments in the F3 European Championship for Carlin. He has also won the Spanish F4 title and finished third in the Euroformula Open Championship in 2017.

DeFrancesco said about his decision to remain at Trident: “I’m happy to be sticking with such an incredible team – starting with the Team Principal Maurizio Salvadori, my engineer Andrea Tesi Mancini, who’s become very close to me, and also Giacomo Ricci and Rocco Berardi, my number one mechanic who’s also unbelievable.

“I’m looking forward to a good year, we found some good stuff during the Valencia tests so I’m sure we can translate that into good results in 2020.”

Team Owner Maurizio Salvadori added on the relationship between himself and his experienced recruit: “I am very satisfied for having extended the relationship with Devlin DeFrancescso in F3 for the 2020 season.

“Last year, Devlin showed great improvement and I am very optimistic about the coming season. I am convinced that the experience gained in 2019 will allow him to harvest the good results that today are certainly within his reach.”

Trident has already confirmed 2018 ADAC F4 champion Lirim Zendeli as one of DeFrancesco’s 2020 team-mates.
