Reigning World Rally Champions Ott Tanak and co-driver Martin Jarveoja will remain in hospital overnight as a precaution after their high-speed Rallye Monte-Carlo crash.

Tanak went off at high speed during SS4 on Friday morning and suffered several rolls before landing on a road further down the hillside.

Tanak’s Hyundai team confirmed that Tanak and Jarveoja exited the i20 Coupe WRC of their own accord and were deemed “fine” after the standard medical checks.

But they will be kept in hospital overnight for precautionary monitoring and take no further part in the opening round of the season.

“Most importantly, I am pleased that Ott and Martin are fine after their accident in this morning’s loop,” said Hyundai team boss Andrea Adamo.

“Our priority in such situations is always the condition of the crew first and foremost.

“It is customary after such incidents for hospital check-ups, the results of which were clear. They will remain there for monitoring overnight, which is again routine procedure.

“Secondary to all of this, we have brought their car back to the Service Park and have retired the crew from this event.”
