A.J Foyt Enterprises Team President Larry Foyt has described the signing of Charlie Kimball as a win-win for both parties ahead of the 2020 NTT IndyCar season.

On Wednesday it was announced that Kimball would move across from Carlin and return to full-time racing action in place of Matheus Leist.

With both the A.J Foyt team in need of turning around its fortunes, and Kimball seeking a return to full-time racing, Foyt felt the deal between them became an exciting prospect.

“I think the win-win was when we first spoke and he just really wanted to get back full-time,” said Foyt. “I think he’s a guy who deserves to be full-time in the series and should be.

“I really felt like his drive matched with his experience was something that would really help the 4 car program right now. That’s it.

“I think being a technical driver, obviously comes from a great engineering family, that’s going to help us develop our setups quickly to kind of get back to where we wanted to be, and that was exciting for me.

“I just think talking to him and his mindset and knowing how driven he was to get back full-time and be competitive, I felt like it was going to be a win-win for us.”

It was also hinted by Foyt that veteran driver Tony Kanaan is poised to stay with the team for a third successive campaign, giving the team an experienced line-up into the new season.

“We’ve been working together, added Foyt. “I think we’re getting everything buttoned up. Like I said, a couple weeks, I think that news will be ready to be coming out.”
