Dale Earnhardt Jr. selects Homestead-Miami Speedway as single 2020 Xfinity Series race

Dale Earnhardt Jr. officially announced Wednesday that the March 21 race at Homestead-Miami Speedway would be his lone NASCAR Xfinity Series race of the 2020 season. He’ll drive a #8 Chevrolet fielded by the JR Motorsports team he co-owns with primary sponsorship from longtime JR Motorsports marketing partner Unilever through its Hellmann’s brand.

“In our sport, partnerships are everything,” JRM General Manager Kelley Earnhardt Miller said. “We don’t throw the words ‘cornerstone partner’ around a lot, but when we do, Unilever exemplifies its meaning.”

Earnhardt hinted at racing at Homestead in 2020 during the 2019 season.

Earnhardt retired from full-time competition as a driver in the NASCAR Cup Series at the end of the 2017 season but has continued to contest one race per season as a driver in the Xfinity Series. The last two seasons, he has contested races at Richmond Raceway and Darlington Raceway.

Earnhardt last competed as a driver in the Xfinity Series at Homestead in 2008. His best series finish at the track was a runner-up showing in 1999, his final full-time season in the series. Earnhardt also posted a best Cup Series finish of third at HMS in 2013.

Earnhardt is a two-time Busch [now-Xfinity] Series champion, winning back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999. In 141-career races in the series, he has 24 wins, the most recent coming at Richmond in 2016.
