Ed Carpenter Racing has announced that it will purchase and implement a dedicated Driver-in-the-Loop simulator.

The team will acquire a DMG-1 simulator from Dynisma, a UK-based driving simulator company, and have it installed in its Indianapolis shop.

Typically, IndyCar teams such as ECR utilize DIL simulators that are owned by manufacturers.

Honda and Chevrolet each have advanced simulator systems that are made available to their customer teams, although time constraints often come into play as multiple teams and partners vie for use of the valuable systems.

By having its own simulator in-house, ECR will have the advantage of being able to run many more iterations and shorten the turnaround time from ideas to on-track implementation.

ECR’s simulator will be particularly valuable in the near term as IndyCar gears up to introduce a new chassis and engine package for the 2028 season.

Alexander Rossi, the team’s veteran driver, has been one of only two drivers to sample the early version of the new IR-28 chassis in person.

His expertise will allow for faster correlation with the Dynisma DIL simulator, and could potentially give the team a large advantage early in the chassis’ lifecycle.

“This is a significant step forward in the technical capabilities of our organization,” said Matt Barnes, ECR Vice President of Competition.

“The real value of a Driver-in-the-Loop simulator is the ability to accelerate the development process, improve the correlation between our simulation tools and the race car, and make better engineering decisions before we arrive at the track.

“Dynisma’s technology gives us an incredibly powerful platform to accomplish those goals.”

ECR plans to have the new system up and running in the first portion of 2027, providing time to evaluate setups for the new chassis well before its planned introduction for the 2028 IndyCar season.
