After missing out on his first match point in Motegi, Maximo Quiles sealed his maiden Moto3 World Championship title in style, taking a commanding victory at the Indonesian GP in Mandalika.
Maximo Quiles writes Moto3 history
Moto3 has crowned its new champion! In Mandalika, Maximo Quiles hit a double milestone by securing his maiden Moto3 World title alongside a dominant Grand Prix victory. The Aspar rider took his tenth win of the season, tying Joan Mir’s 2017 record and Marc Marquez’s 2010 mark, though he still trails David Alonso’s all-time record of 14 victories in a single season.
By sealing the championship in Mandalika, Maximo Quiles becomes the first rider to secure the Moto3 crown with five rounds remaining, capping off an utterly dominant season.
Cruising to victory in Mandalika, Marc Maquez’s young protege built a commanding 2.9 second gap over runner-up David Almansa. Meanwhile, polesitter Brian Uriarte fought valiantly after an early setback, slicing back through the order to secure the final step of the podium and elevate himself to P3 in the standings.
Behind the top three, Matteo Bertelle and Rico Salmela secured fourth and fifth place respectively, finishing ahead of Veda Pratama in sixth. Guido Pini took seventh ahead of Adrian Fernandez, while Joel Esteban and Scott Ogden completed the top 10, followed by Ryusei Yamanaka and Hakim Danish. Adrian Cruces placed 13th despite a first-lap crash, leading home Valentino Perrone and Jesus Rios.
Further down the order, Alvaro Carpe failed to finish following mid-race contact with Fernandez at Turn 10, a heavy blow to his fight for runner-up in the championship, while his main rival David Almansa scored crucial points in second position. As a result, the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider concedes third place in the standings to his teammate, Brian Uriarte.
The Indonesian GP was also marked by several incidents, including Casey O’Gorman crashing at Turns 4 and 5 on lap three, Ryota Ogiwara suffering a highside, and Ruche Moodley going down with four laps to go.
