New venues, revised dates, and an 850cc technical reset outline a landmark 22-race schedule for the 2027 MotoGP championship.

As the 2026 MotoGP season enters its final stretch, the championship has officially unveiled its 22-round calendar for 2027. Spanning five continents, the upcoming campaign promises high intrigue as the sport ushers in a major regulatory overhaul, featuring a reduction in engine capacity from 1,000cc to 850cc, Pirelli replacing Michelin as the sole tyre supplier, and significantly trimmed aerodynamic regulations designed to level the playing field.

Adelaide and Buenos Aires join the grid

The 2027 campaign kicks off a week later than usual with the Thailand Grand Prix (Buriram, March 05-07). Qatar reclaims its traditional second slot on the calendar with the Qatar Grand Prix (Lusail, March 12-14), before the paddock heads to South America for the Brazil Grand Prix (Goiania, April 02-04). Notably, should the Qatar round face cancellation due to geopolitical tensions, MotoGP would face a month-long hiatus following the season opener.

From Brazil, the championship travels to the Argentine Grand Prix (Buenos Aires, April 09-11) after a one-year absence. The USA Grand Prix (Austin, April 23-25) follows, occupying a slot three weeks later than usual. The European leg then begins at the Spanish Grand Prix (Jerez, May 07-09), effectively swapping dates with the French Grand Prix (Le Mans, May 14-16), which shifts back a week before heading directly to the Italian Grand Prix (Mugello, May 28-30). The Catalonia Grand Prix (Barcelona, June 11-13) now follows the Italian round, a reversal from 2026, while the Dutch GP (Assen, June 25-27) and German GP (Sachsenring, July 09-11) retain their classic mid-summer slots.

Summer schedule adjustments

However, unlike 2026, the German Grand Prix will not mark the final race before the summer break. That honour falls to the Czech Grand Prix (Brno, July 16-18), which shifts a month later into July, promising warmer weather for the summer break precursor. The three-week summer hiatus ends in mid-August with the British Grand Prix (Silverstone, August 13-15), before heading to the Austrian Grand Prix (Spielberg, August 27-29), which returns to an August date after testing a September slot in 2026.

The San Marino Grand Prix (Misano, September 10-12) keeps its traditional September positioning, while the Aragon Grand Prix (Motorland, September 17-19) shifts to mid-September. The Portugal Grand Prix (Portimao, October 01-03), which hosted the penultimate round in 2026, moves to early October as the final European prelude to the flyaways.

Late-season flyaways

The Asian leg starts two weeks later than in 2026 with a double-header comprising the Japanese Grand Prix (Motegi, October 15-17) and the Malaysian Grand Prix (Sepang, October 22-24), replacing the usual Japan-Indonesia pairing. The grid then moves directly to the Indonesian Grand Prix (Mandalika, October 29-31), forming the sole triple-header on the 2027 schedule. Moving Motegi later into October means colder track conditions can be expected in Japan.

The championship then heads down under for its inaugural race in Australia (Adelaide, November 12-14), where milder spring weather is anticipated compared to the notoriously unpredictable climate of Phillip Island. Finally, the Valencia Grand Prix (Cheste, November 26-28) hosts the season finale, one week later than initially planned for 2026. This late-November date raises potential weather concerns for both the race weekend and the traditional post-season test in early December.

The addition of new venues like Buenos Aires and Adelaide marks a clear shift in strategy following Liberty Media’s acquisition of MotoGP in July 2025. The American media group appears to be testing new markets, potentially building momentum for future motorsport crossovers, particularly in South America, where Formula 1 currently only races in Brazil.
