IndyCar Officiating has announced that one driver will receive a grid penalty for this weekend’s race on the streets of Washington, D.C.

Santino Ferrucci will line up further back on the grid than he qualifies due to excessive engine changes on his #14 AJ Foyt Racing Chevy.

The team swapped out his engine after the race at Markham, meaning he will be forced to give up six positions on the grid for this weekend’s event.

Six positions is the standard penalty assigned for road and street course events, with nine place penalties being assigned for oval events.

This is not the first engine penalty Ferrucci has been given this year, as he also had to give up grid positions in Road America in June.

At this time, no other grid penalties have been assessed. However, if another driver crashes hard enough to practice or qualifying to necessitate an engine change, more penalties could be announced ahead of Sunday’s 147 race.
